Not tons of power but worked okay for 3 years, then died. Not fixable. Giving it a second star only because it worked acceptably until it didn't. An expensive "good quality" microwave should last years longer. I do not recommend this.

Failed again after 25 months and two repairs

After 25 months of use, it failed the first time. Local GE certified tech replaced door switch, failed two weeks later. GE then kindly replaced control board, all door switches, and something else (magnetometer?). 5 weeks later, it now makes a popping sound and trips the breaker. It is now a fire hazard. I tried to let GE know, but they closed the case. Hopefully GE can see this review and offer me some kind of help on replacing model PEB9159SJ3SS with a reliable microwave that fits into our current (and very expensive) trim kit. Thank you in advance. At least tell me what model number to get. Sigh.....

Bought this unit plus trim kit for over $1000. Manufactured June 2023. We started using it May 2024. Now, May 2026, after one repair, it no longer works despite over $200 in repairs. I've decided not to put good money after bad and want to buy a replacement. This unit is no longer available nor any others of the same size. WORSE, the trim kit, which cost over $180 won't fit any other GE microwaves. $1000 plus $200 repair cost so far for 25 months of use is ridiculous. GE, WILL YOU HELP ME WITH REPLACEMENT? SN LV200375A, model PEB9159SJ3SS
UPDATE: GE customer service graciously paid for a repair. Parts came before expected date, and the local company they hired did a good repair. My microwave now works again. Thank you

Purchased in July 2022 control panel began to fail in just 2.5 years. It has completely gone out now. I see many reviews claiming the same issue but GE will not recall or cover the issue. It™™s an $800 microwave. You would think seeing this as a common issue and not a one off, they would be willing to assist their customers. Not charge them a $175 service fee and $175 replacement part plus labor.

GE micro keypad losing function after 3 years!
2023 GE Profile convmicro
5/24/2026
We purchased this GE Profile convection microwave new as parts of a five piece ensemble directly from GE.
Everything was installed by them except for the exhaust hood. The microwave buttons started to lose function in 3 years, one at a time in the course of the last year. Unit is still operational, but the clock isn™™t able to be viewed.
I grew up in a household with microwaves and washers and dryers and dishwashers from GE that lasted 20 years without any issue.
This is unacceptable, and it appears that the malfunctioning control is a factory defect, and there has been no support from the manufacturer. Instead, they discontinued the unit.
I™™d buy another GE replacement if they would provide a discount to a loyal customer, a small gesture considering a dominant U.S. based American company.

We purchased this conv/micro with new construction in 6/20. We had to replace the control board in 1/24 to the cost of $390.55. It is now beginning to show the signs of the same problem with some of the numbers in the display not lighting. Not sure if we should find a replacement for this unit or repair again. This products looks sleek and functioned as you would expect a microwave to for about 2 years. We then noticed the display panel started to go out along with several buttons (including add 30 seconds, the 1, etc.). Really sucks given the price of this product and their extremely limited warranty of 1 year. Pretty disappointed in GE here.
I would candidly recommend going with a different brand. If you take the time to skim other reviews, you™™ll see a similar thread of complaints. They™™re clearly aware of these issues and don™™t care. Vote with your wallet and avoid this product.

I spent a lot of money on GE Profile appliances and would not recommend any. My dishwasher was serviced 3 times at a cost of 150 a visit before I just bought a new one. The microwave needs replacement and the stove has to have multiple parts replaced. My previous appliances lasted more than 15 to 20 years. Basically crap. The business I bought from was a local small business. They treated us like a Home Depot or Lowe™™s would so no use supporting them anymore- the father passed away and the kids only care about sales and profits. We purchased our pre construction home in 2023. All the appliances were GE/ GE Profile. The two microwaves started having issues before year 2 was up. One doesn't heat nor rotate. The other is losing the digital display. We contacted Customer Service and they advised that since we were out of warranty there was nothing they could/would do . They offered to send a Tech out for a fee. The Rep did advised that this model normally last about 8 years. One would think they would sent a Tech out as a courtesy, since the product normally last up to 8 years. The units are over $1100 each to replace. We're not giving up that easy

Sad decline of a once-great American company

I remember studying GE under Jack Welch back in business school in the late 1980™™s. They were considered a leading American company in manufacturing, services, finance, etc. But GE today isn™™t even in the same universe as the GE of yesteryear. Our $950 microwave (including trim kit) broke after less than 2 years. The display panel failed. Reading reviews, this is a common problem with their microwaves with display panels frequently failing after just a year or two. GE doesn™™t care. When I asked GE customer service (which isn™™t even GE anymore) for assistance, they said NO. The cost to replace then control board is close to $500 and GE offers zero assurance that the replacement board will last any longer than a year. I™™ve purchased many GE appliances in the past including Monogram but I will NEVER purchase anything from GE again. The company doesn™™t stand behind its products and doesn™™t care about its customers.

Worst microwave we have ever owned. We have had it for six years. Worked fine for the first 2-3 years. The last three years we have had it repaired three times (control panel, door toggle switches, power supply shut off). GE Profile Microwave Failure ™ Known Issue with No
Horrible Microwave 20
7/12/2025
I™™m writing to express my frustration and disappointment with our GE Profile Microwave, which failed after just three years of use. A few weeks ago, the numbers on the digital clock began to fade, and shortly after, the buttons stopped responding altogether. We had no choice but to replace the microwave entirely.
When we went to purchase a new one, the appliance store representative mentioned that at least eight other customers had recently come in with the same issue ™" all related to the GE Profile line. This seems to be a known and recurring defect. In fact, several neighbors in my community have experienced the exact same issue with their GE Profile microwaves.
When I contacted GE customer service, I was told that nothing could be done because the microwave was out of warranty. No solutions, no goodwill offer, no acknowledgment of this known defect ™" just a blanket refusal to help.
This is extremely disappointing for a product that carries the GE name and reputation. I hope GE will take responsibility for this recurring issue and offer a resolution for customers who have been affected.

I purchased this microwave in 2019 from Atlantic Appliance in Yorktown Hgts, NY when I was redoing my kitchen with the Southeast Kitchen and Bath comp.. I had the microwave and frame built into a cabinet cut to fit. It was expensive back then as well and I figured ok it's GE so it will last. It had broken twice within the first few months and luckily under contract. Then again and they said it could only be considered a lemon if it broke over 5x. It was getting worse and worse until the number 3 , Start and Pause was all that was left. Then Start stopped working and I took a screw driver and took off the frame and pulled the microwave to the curb and lifted into the garbage can. Now I am trying to find some type replacement to fit the frame work which in itself is a piece of rubberized plastic. GE what happened to your company? I won't talk about my gas stove with convection right now as that has broke as well. Your company should be contacting us and giving us a new machine. So disappointed that I refuse to look at any other GE products. I have cried in frustration over this while measuring machines on line and in stores. Its not right

Our purchase decision was made based on the GE Profile we had to replace, which served us very well for 14 years. We thought there'd be less of a learning curve to use this similar model. Unfortunately, this newer model does not suit our current needs as seniors for the following reasons. The controls are not backlit and the icons on them are smaller to read. Our original purchase was set below our kitchen counter to suit my ADA needs, not on top. We are using the same layout in the kitchen as before which also limits visibility to the controls. To use the microwave my husband often has to get down on his knees to read and select the correct controls. Some of the options/features timeout too quickly before going on to the next selection.

I have had this product from Nov 2018 as an upgrade purchase for appliances from builder.
Right after the 1 year mark, i started experiencing problems just like all the owners are: THE PARTIAL DISPLAY, MOST OF BUTTONS ARE NOT WORKING, AND THE TURNTABLE CONTINUES TURNING WHEN DOOR IS OPENED. When i called GE, they said it is out of warranty. Since the microwave was partially functioning and our sole utilization is for heating food, we managed to keep using it with the add 30 seconds button until it completely died recently.
When i was trying to search online for any repair suggestions, that is when i learned that these problems are not just for me but across board for all the owners who owned this product. Some were able to get it fixed with warranty/extended warranty, some replaced them with other brands due to the experience considering GE microwaves as junk and other were in the state of frustration just like me not knowing what to do!
I went ahead and inquired with most of my neighbors since all of our houses had the same appliances installed by our builder and guess what? 90% of them experienced same issues and replaced/repaired their microwaves. I figured that i was late to the party because our household utilization of the microwave is very limited.
It looked to be that GE is aware of this issue with the product based on so many reviews and i am not able to understand and each time why this product hasn't been recalled yet, if this issue is so common amongst all the owners during the lifecycle of this appliance.
May be we should proceed with a lawsuit or something, IDK. I will do some more digging and update so all the users experiencing/experienced this issue can pitch in. Thank you!
